Plumbing Tips for Your Basement Bathroom
When performing
basement bathroom plumbing, you should keep in
mind that this kind of work requires
considerable skill, plumbing experience and
attention to detail.
Many professional
contractors offer basement bathroom plumbing
services and it may be wise to hire one. This is
due to the fact that the flooring often needs to
be removed, and in some cases, existing
drainpipes may be broken or damaged if the job
is not done by a professional.
Existing concrete may need to be removed when
installing a basement bathroom plumbing fixture.
In certain cases, the items to be installed,
such as the bathtub, shower unit, and so forth,
may not easily be available. These items may
need to be purchased via special channels.
When the concrete in the basement needs to be
broken, the concrete surface is marked around
the required areas, and the concrete is
jackhammered out. The resulting debris must then
be cleared from the area before new pipes can be
installed into the existing plumbing fixtures.
When this process is complete, the concrete must
be re-laid.
One of the common basement bathroom plumbing
tasks is the installation of a sump, usually
plastic, under the basement floor. The lift pump
or sewage ejector pump is used to remove waste
as it becomes full. In most cases the sumps are
fitted to grind down solid, but if the pump
fails, the toilet will not drain correctly.
If your house has a drain that lies below the
basement level, no pump needs to be installed. A
plumber may be required to help you with
estimates concerning the drain line locations,
along with plumbing setup plans.
However, if your main drain lies at the floor
level, a false floor is often built for the
bathroom. One of the considerations in this case
is the ceiling height, as it must be high enough
to provide headroom, and that the false floor
can accommodate the fixtures higher than the
sewer line. With a false floor installed, there
is no need to install a sewage ejector pumping
unit.
Special care needs to be taken while installing,
maintaining, repairing or replacing basement
bathroom plumbing. If you need work completed on
your basement bathroom plumbing, you can easily
hire a competent plumber for assistance with the
planning and execution of the project.
